Max deitchler, washington county election commissioner (2014-2025)
Highlights from Max’s Service on the Commission :
Expanded early voting from 2 sites in 2014 to 21 sites by 2024, making voting more convenient and saving taxpayer money with less equipment.
Adopted a vote center model so any voter can cast a ballot at any polling place on Election Day.
Opened an early vote location on the University of Arkansas campus in 2020.
Expanded early vote access to rural towns including Farmington, Prairie Grove, Elkins, Lincoln, West Fork, and Sonora - not just Fayetteville and Springdale.
Worked with legislators from both parties to pass Act 328, allowing high school students to serve as poll workers. Since the law was passed, over 1,000 students have been trained in Washington County!
Supported the creation of Arkansas’s first “I Voted” sticker contest for local children in Washington County, encouraging civic engagement.
Helped secure new voting equipment to modernize elections and increase accessibility.
None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the leadership of Executive Director Jennifer Price and her terrific staff, or without my Republican colleagues; sometimes we disagreed, but we always worked together - that’s how government should work.
